What is Occupational Therapy? (click me)
We think of “occupations” as anything that occupies our time. Occupational therapists help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities, delays and other deficits to participate fully in play, self-cares, school, and social situations. As occupational therapists, we study the anatomy, physiology, neurology and development in order to analyze activities that children may be having difficulties with.
At Roots Rehab we assess the whole person looking at these areas so that children become functional and independent. We address skills such as self-regulation and modulation, fine and gross motor skills, visual motor/visual perceptual skills, social interactions and participation as well as sensory discrimination and processing difficulties. You may see adaptive equipment, sensory strategies and assistive technology used within the session in order to promote functional outcomes.
